Why do you want to survive

Post by the-gnole »

We all have a thought in our heads why we want to survive, I used to be a smoker, but gave it up nearly five years ago, of a dozen who started the process of giving up the fags I was the only one who managed to do it, I wanted to quit, obviously the others who I followed into the "game" didn't want to.

We all were given the same advice and encouragement, but it is down to will-power, some will have that same will-power when it comes to surviving when other won't.

I had an 8 year old daughter when I started the process, (now 13) and I want to grow old and see her grow older, become a young lady, find someone to look after her, see her marry, have kids of her own, that was why I quit, but it is also one of few reasons I want to survive and thrive should the worst ever happen, which it probably won't in a hurry.

So what is your aiming point, why would you/should you want to be a survivor in a world where we are all going to die at some point, but in the meantime, if some fantasies are to be believed, is going to be a place of great distress, with murder, mayhem, raping and pillaging going on for years to come following some breakdown in the way we live.

When I realized that drinking alcohol was actually doing it, was actually killing me and I was dying (over 8 years ago now), it was a bit like being on the edge of a cliff and realizing that I have a choice, to jump or to work hard to get down from the cliff edge.

The last thing that I wanted to do was to wait until I was plummeting to the ground before I thought to myself "maybe this wasn't such a good idea....."

It was a survival instinct that kicks in when you realize in a moment of mental clarity that things really are that serious and that you have a choice.

Once you have experienced that, I have come to the conclusion that you get in to that state of mind.

I am also a non smoker, 4 and 1/2 months this time around.
I want to live.

If routes are closed to me, within the law and as far as I can go within any limitations laid on me by health or wealth, I will find a way.

It can be hard, but sometimes you have to do things that a "normal" person wouldn't do in order to survive.

You may feel a bad about it, but you know that the first layer of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs must be fulfilled.

Its kind like a blessing to think that way, so long as you can do it rationally and in a balanced way.

I want to survive to be able to help my daughter and her children (if she ever has any), so that they can survive in the best possible way, with the resources available to them. Getting into peak health, learning skills, and prepping is the way for me to do that.

Why do i want to survive ?

Because I enjoy life, simple as that for me. I dont have any religious beliefs (more of a pantheist myself) so I dont believe i will have another chance at life when this one is finished. I intend to make this one as long lasting and interesting as it can be.

Good thread Gnole.

I'm not sure why I'm into this. I guess it's just a natural thing to want to survive, and also to make yourself as comfortable as possible.

I smoked for about 6-7 years, and finally gave up in 2003. Haven't smoked a single cigarette since. Funnily enough, I still get smoking dreams - usually in them I've started smoking again! But I'm glad I gave that up. Now me and the wife are trying to reduce our drinking. We've both admitted that we drink too much. A bottle of wine most nights plus cocktails a few times a week doesn't do wonders for your health. We've cut down a lot since Christmas, and only drink every other day now. Last night I had a couple of whiskies and a small glass of wine, so not bad. We probably won't drink tonight.

I'm getting fit too. Since freelancing, I haven't been cycling across London like I did previously. So recently I started using the wife's Wii Fit. Don't laugh, I do about an hour on it every day or so, and it keeps me active!

got to be here for the offspring and my challenge is to outlive my gran 96 when she went and reasonably fit up to the last year of her life. I will want to depart if my health is bad and i cant get around, depending on other people is not for me. Quality of life is very important to my thinking in the area of health and mobility, when they go time for me to i think.

Agreed. I don't think people have to have some deep, meaningful and spiritual reason to want to survive - the fact that you do is motivation enough. I want to see as much of the world as I can, and experience as much as I can. And that's good enough for me!
