Cooking

I just got "Eating for Victory" - pure magic. Hoe to cook for a family using one pot and some cocoa tins, among other handy things to know, like how to cook without fat or eggs or sugar. This is the official wartime leaflets gathered together and published. Well worth getting.

I'm finding this wee book pure magic. It has real food, stuff that I can spell the names of  It's terrific on using up scraps, not wasting food or gas to cook it on, and in making do with what you've got. Shows you how to cook a 3 course meal using one big pot and two tins, you cook the potatoes in the water in the big pot and at the same time cook the veg in the tins and can even steam a pudding at the same time. To me this is worth a hundred fancy stoves and gadgets, because if you can work with absolute basics then you're ok. And the S had HTF for them then, so it's first hand practical experience.

I've ordered my copy of Eating For Victory now. Thanks for that tip. Like you say, good to get the info direct from people who had been through some serious S.
