Fire starter.

Post by kashaw »

Hi, I'm Kath and this is my first post. I am new to prepping. I only started reading about prepping last night and was awake until 3.30A.M reading everything I could. I thought I would go back to basics and tried to light a fire using 2 sticks...4 hours later and blistered hands, not even a puff of smoke. so...Looks like I will be stocking up on matches and lighters. Has anyone tried lighting a fire with sticks and how hard was it?

Hi Kath,

Welcome to UK preppers, I guess that the mods will guide you to the new members area to do an intro post in a bit and to the bushcraft area for questions on fire lighting with two sticks. ;) ;)

A few of us have done bow-drill fire lighting and it does work so long as you use the correct types of wood.

Look on the tinternet for Mors Kochanski, very clever bushcrafter, he prefers to use firelighters and a cigarette lighter, why struggle when you don't have too ;)

Hello and welcome to the Forum.

Yep, I have completed the bow drill and hand drill, however on a list of 10 methods to start a fire by they rate at numbers 25 and 26

For a survival situation is is good to know how to do it but there are easier methods out there
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

If you must use two sticks to light a fire make sure one of them is a match.
