survivalism bob from scratch

Post by transformer84 »

well im not new to survivalism, i used to spend vast chunks of time wild camping and walking, but i now need to basically buy everything from new...

i have seen various sites that have different things at good prices

britishmilitarysurplus.co.uk
flecktarn.co.uk
militarymart.co.uk

between them i think i can get most of everything for my new bob...

im looking for a 5day range min from a BOB, so im looking for the big british backpack for £25. also playing with the idea of a webbing set for emergency and often used kit, like grazing foods, mes tins and cooker, food, first aid kit ect.

anyone got any advice or concerns?

First off there is a seperate bob section at the top of the equipment bit. Lots of useful info in there with many ideas and alternatives across the board.

For me I didn't want to look too 'army' as you never know where you'll bug out to or who might be interested on what you're carrying. Survivaldoc on YouTube has a great vid on this that's well worth a view. That said its hard to beat a bergen for sheer load swallowing capacity. Remember though that you might have to carry it some distance so be wary of overloading yourself.
Survival gear is great but not always the easiest option. E.g I carry flint and steel but also have a lighter and firelighters as its so much easier. Don't neglect the basics either, moss does the job but you'll kill for andrex after a couple of days ;)

im looking to travel as light as possible, so the bob will proberbly have loads of spare space... and as for comfy bum i always carry at least one roll, i like my little luxuries :-)

with things like fire lighting, and all kit in general, i try to give myself options... carry the easy options but back them up with the bullet proof, fling and steel ways.

good point on the military look tho, but for a civilian bag of the same quality and size id be spending over 4 times as much... so for now i think that will be a future investmenthttp://www.underfireminiatures.com/index.htm.

taking advice from this forum i have got a first and experimental BOB. its a 45L civilian rucksack. it has a flexible plastic back so its very comfortable. im aware how small 45L is for a BOB, but from past experiences, if i have a big bag i tend to fill it as in the past my woodland camping has been based on making camp and staying there. as im now aiming for one night stays and then moving i want to go as light as possible, so restricting myself to 45L will force me to pack essentials. once i have mastered that i may go bigger and extend my range.

any thoughts?
