Oil for hurricane lamp

Post by preppingsu »

Having visited the car boot this morning I picked up my first hurricane lamp. All in good condition.
Where do you guys buy your lamp oil from? I'm assuming it's Parafin?
Thanks

You can do, but it smells.

You can also use heating oil, but it might be diesel or Kerosene so have a look at your oil company receipt to see which you have, you want the Kerosene 28sec type to use in the lamp.

You can also use barbeque lighting fluid which is paraffin based and at end of season really cheap.

You can of course use the really expensive lamp oil.

Look out for garages in your area that sell it in bulk as paraffin is really expensive at places like B&Q

Garden Centres in UK sometimes sell 'Lamp Oil', in Portugal its available off the local supermarket shelf, mind you so is Acetone, full strength Hydrochloric Acid (really) and a whole list of 'dangerous chemical' that the uk nanny state has deemed we're not clever enough to be trusted with.
