Im currently reading how to survive the end of the world as we know it by James Wesley Rawles. Its got some good advice in it mainly U.S. related stuff but my problem with it is theres no way I can afford to buy everything that he recommends. At the moment I feel quite vulnerable as I can only be as prepared as finances allow.

Same here, lack of funds makes it hard, but can only do what we can do, and I take comfort in the fact that I'm more prepared then the sheeple.
The Libaries here are crap. so far I've managed to get hold of 2 books Alas Babylon was a great read, Earth Abides was also a good but I had to order them, not much into this kinda thing in Essex Libaries it seems.

MCcammon, The stand by Stephen King, all personally recommended by the OH, plus my recommendation: Last Light by Alex Scarrow(£6-99) a good read, there,s a sub plot about a hitman which i think is not neccessary but it just shows how quick things COULD break down,PLUS The post petroleum Survival guide and cookbook by albert bates(£9.50) and my "bible": Camping and Woodcraft by horace kephart(1917)probably not in print any more but worth it IF you can get a copy(mine's a very old ex library copy).enjoy!

the following is a recommendation from the OH: "having attended at least 5 herbal medicine and foraging courses in Glastonbury for travellers and the alternative community i would not be without:The complete illustrated Holistic Herbal by David Hoffman, illustrated edition of Aromatherapy an A-Z by Patricia Davis (this is a total health book not just Aromatherapy at all), Herbs and healing plants of Britain and Europe by Dieter Pollech, collins nature guides. and REALLY get to know what plants grow wild in your area-i.e. Burdock and Comfrey, you can eat common comfrey -leaves and root-but NOT Russian comfrey which is grown in a lot of gardens, you HAVE to know the difference. for foraging plant identification make sure your book is published in ENGLAND not America as they call the same plants different names to us and different plants the same names, to be 100% sure use the latin name, if in ANY doubt DONT eat it" from JANE, big paul's OH.

"A Gift Upon the Shore" M.K.Wren Post nuke and plague survival in Oregon. A good read.

"Omega" Stewart Farrar. British, apocalyptic earthquake, government persecution, white and black magic. Good example of folks "Bugging Out" being chased with torches and pitchforks.
