This is the one thing that really worries me ITSHTF.
About 20 years ago, I had to have my thyroid removed (cancerous) so now have to take thyroxine every day. During my treatment for the cancer, I had to come off the thyroxine and within a couple of weeks, I was sleeping for 15-18 hours a day and only getting up to force myself to eat before collapsing on the sofa. If that happens in a TEOTWAWKI situation, I would be dead within a couple of months.
Are any of your on repeat meds and how do you propose to deal with it?
At the moment, I am getting my repeats every 3 weeks so I can stockpile!

Stockpiling is obviously the safest way to get what you need.
IF society were to break down to the point where there was no pharmaceutical industry then you might find this link interesting. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desiccated_thyroid_extract
It is often worth looking up older treatments as though obsolete they often did work. Insulin is another example though harder to extract.

Kelp is a natural substitute but you cant take it while you are on Thyroxine. stockpiling is the only other option.Maddie_cat wrote:This is the one thing that really worries me ITSHTF.

Can I throw something else into the mix: Birth control pills. While I know its not medicine in the need it to surive category, it is still perscription based. While there are lots of other forms of birth control, from abstaing to do the wild thing to using condoms, which will run out in a SHtF situation, the added complication of pregnacy in certain senarios is not a good thing. Noting that it is exactly in those senarios that we will turn to each other for "comfort and cuddles," as we will need that most at that time, yet the possible outcome of pattering feet will not always be welcome or be practical at first.
