Carboot sales

Post by Juvecu »

Can anyone tell me a reliable way to find carboot sales in my area? I've never been to one before, but it seems a good way of getting useful 2nd hand stuff for fair prices. I've looked online on various websites and when I turn up to the places there is nothing there on the days/dates specified. I only recently moved to Rugby, maybe someone local can offer some advice, please?

That didn't even occur to me, I feel real stupid now  I haven't bought a paper in years, get all my news online. I think there is a free one that they pop through the door once a week so I'll see if I still know how to turn real pages  Thanks.

Correct me if I am wrong (or simply out of order as I seem to be more often) but are you intending to bug in or bug out with a sack full of nik naks and a broken picture frame or have I missed something ?

i think your missing the obvious , car boots are a good way of finding what you want with out paying full price , things like storage jars , hand tools ect . the older stuff is usually better quality than what you find today as well .
YES i walked away mid sentence , you were boring me to death and my survival instincts kick in .

For example, I picked up a German brand hurricane lantern for £2.00, 2 x20l jerry cans and my OH some hand tools (spent less than £20).
We go spefically with something in mind and if it's not there then we don't buy anything else. No tat for us.

Many people sell stuff and they just don't have a clue what it is/does etc.

Have a look for ones being run by schools, usually advertised outside the school or in local papers. Ask around, find out which ones are worth going to.

We have some weekly ones in Plymouth, and yes you can get useful stuff at them, it's random though to make the most of them you have to go a lot in my experience, I haven't been to one for years, but reading this (and other threads mentioning CBS sucess) I am tempted I must say, I think there are three a week here at least, best of all walking distance two days a week.
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

You do have to hit quite a few to get good items, other than tools. I've found CB radios, PMR446 radios, battery powered field telephones, air pistols/rifles, knifes and torches. The issue is a lot of car boot sales don't allow the sale of air rifles/pistol and knifed now.
