The bottles the water come in are fine. Keep it somewhere dark to reduce potential algae growth. Refill with fresh (tap) water every 6 months or so.

The bottles are fine, keep it in its original wrapper.

Have you a lidl near you? The reason I ask is they sell 2 litre bottles of water in packs of 8 for about 18p a bottle, I think. The packs are great as they at stackable ;)

If the bottled water is kept in a cool dark environment it should be good for a year. After that refill with tap water for 1 yr life or do a little work > Boil tap water for 3 minutes to kill any microorganisms then treat with 2 drops of thin household bleach per litre. This gives a product that will last for 2 years in storage.

I'm currently picking up water from Sainburys - "Caledonian spring water" £1.09 for 5 litres. There are cheaper bottles of 'table water' but I'm opting for the more practical larger storage bottles. Just grabbing one or two whenever I pop to town on my bike and gradually building a stockpile.

Does anybody know about the quality difference between so called spring water and the seemingly lesser table water? Is the cheapest supermarket water just from the tap? Or are they identical chemicals - just different branding?

The "table" water is just tap water that's been filtered well. You could probably get similar results with one of those jugs that can fit an activated carbon filter. I use the Sainsburys still table water when I'm away from home. At home I put tap water through the carbon filter. I can't tell the difference between the two.

After listening the recent series on survival report podcast I’ve decided to move away from bottled water altogether, it is relatively expensive and those thin bottles aren’t designed to last forever (quite the opposite) So I going to get some of them 25l plastic jerry-cans fill em with tap water and a bit of bleach.
