Tabards and Tape.

Post by Ian »

We had a RAYNET exercise last Saturday. Standing in Windsor Great Park all day wearing a yellow tabard gives you super powers. The tabard gives you a pseudo authority, everyone and their brother expected information and could not believe when told that you did not have what they wanted.

I have noticed it before, turn up at an incident, put on a yellow tabard (it does not matter what is written on it, even 'Observer' works) and suddenly you are the fount of all wisdom and often, access to all areas.

Put up a line of barrier tape and no-one (not even Police) will cross it, we call it magic tape as it has these magical properties to stop people in their tracks. It is embarrassing to see how well it works.

I am not too sure what use that might be to you all, but it is another good reason to carry a simple tabard (often found by the side of the road) and ten meters or so of magic tape (white mining tape is good if you can get it) in your bag.

I have always noticed this Ian! So true.
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.

Robert Frost.

Covid 19: After that level of weirdness ,any situation is certainly possible.

They call it urban camouflage in surveillance...no one pays any attention to someone in a high vis vest because they assume you are supposed to be there! its great.
That in mind i am thinking of some Biohazard tape for my house on the initial bug in....maybe if i had the full white suit on with respirator and stapled black plastic over the windows with bio hazard signs everywhere people would be less likely to loot?

My plan too
I have a white paper suit, masks etc, then can set up biohaz tape and notices outside the house. If you were a looter looking at a row of houses and one of them had a 'Warning -Biohazard - Infection control' notices, which would you tackle last, if at all ?
I'm in Area 7 !

Just wait for the first looter, shoot/stab/strangle/bludgen him/her, then stick their head on a spike in your front garden with a sign saying THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS TO LOOTERS and then go and chillax in the knowledge that most looters will think twice before bothering you.

I drive a blue lighted vehicle for work and the same applys.. Police will flag me thru traffic, Ppl will stop and let me out, give way to me... which is kinda worrying really that 'any nutter' could mock up an emergency service vehicle and drive it pretty much unchallenged, pretty much anywhere they want to go!

Just an add on to the last. Fortunately, the emergency services are well aware for the potential of 'trojan vehicles' in the UK, so being waved through traffic is 1 thing getting to anything that needs to be secure is another! Stay safe and if you wear hi-vis prepare for non stop silly questions ;)

We can buy all sorts of warning tape and warning notices on the net to scare people off. For example here's a pic I've photoshopped, I don't think any bad guy would risk going in there..;)

I'd have to disagree Jim Asbestosis is a killer yes I have a good friend with it, many do around these parts it's rife in ex naval dockyard workers, but it's a long and slow one in most cases, and combatable with a dust mask, even a ripped up shirt or hanky and an imediate shower would take the risks down to that of some of the SHTF scenarios we worry about, I'd go with the biohazard, radiation, ones but don't have alot of faith any would stop the sort of desperate post SHTF wanderer.
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.
