Fireworks Anyone?

Post by ctrljay »

Its getting nearer fireworks night and I was thinking of keepng some for emergency.

I though they might have good uses if TSHTF.

Could be used to signal.(if you want to be found!)

Could be used to scare away animals.

Any other ideas?

Please be careful with this subject. I edited the initial post.

Don't go wandering off into talking about using fireworks for self defence, modification of fireworks or similar, even in a 'theoretical' way. We do not wish to attract unwanted attention to this forum of any kind.

Not fireworks but I do carry a mini flare kit when I'm out on the moors for emergency signalling.

I think a firework is a really good idea to use as a cheap substitute for a safety signalling flare like Hobo listed ... I presume it wouldn't last as long, but I guess you'd buy quite a few (I've never, ever bought fireworks! I have no idea how much they are  )

I dont think fireworks are much use for anything. I think creativity and research is more useful.

They were handy in Flight of the Navigator ! ! ! !

I like this idea, we always think about the "keeping hidden and staying quiet" tactics, but what if you needed the emergency services / or just to be found? Major bleeding, children in danger, pregnancy complications etc.

The size to uses ratio doesn't really win out for fireworks, and the black powder in them absorbs moisture too fast for them to be viable long term option in the bergen (unless you wrap it up tight I guess), this post has led Hobo to post about the mini flare kit, which is indeed a really good bit of kit - Just bought one :D - Thanks for the recommendation Hobo.

Why not just keep some emergency flares, rather than fireworks?

Isn't it illegal to release/fire a flare on land? Generally if you're not a boat in distress I think it's against the rules. Same as you can't use a marine radio inland...
