I will be 100% honest that I have never shopped in Lidl
I am going to take a trip to one this week.
My family eat most things .

Start by buying a large selection of tinned and dried food stuff but only buy one or two of each and try them out before you buy in bigger quantities. A lot of the stuff is just as good as big brand names but that can't be said for everything, try before you buy.
The same goes for Aldi
Cheers

Canned goods mostly BUT I would recommend that you only buy a tin or two of a product if you do not recognise it, try it on your family and if they like it, stock up. No point buying 20 cans of German Frankenburger with Sauerschwitz sauce if you can't stand the stuff!Magenta16v wrote:What are good buys or bargains to put away into storage
Lidls' also has a lot of housewares in there
I'm in Area 1

+1 on that.
I'm rather addicted to their large cans of chili at the mo
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Their bacon grill is always £1.39 for the 300g size Salami is reasonable, freeze it and it will last as long as it would have when it went in, when you take it out.
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.
Re: Stocking up from Lidl
We've been shopping there for a wee while now and would recommend the Bulwark tinned soups and boiled potatoes, and if the family like baked beans then the Campo Largo variety are spot on as is their own sweet corn. All at a fraction of the price of the branded variety. Now we do like the odd hotdog when camping and I'd never buy any other ones now than the jars of the german ones that are in Lidl however whe don't boil them, we stick em on the bbq and they are delish!!!
Good advice from Maddie cat tho, check em out before stocking up. Lidl prices for branded stuff are sometimes the same or more expensive than Sainsburys/Morrisons etc etc though they do sell some bulk stuff like rice that is worth the money. And as already said, household stuff is available as well as rope, cloth tape, warm socks for the winter and hardwear/worky type gloves all at a decent price. Certainly look out for their first aid kits that are well worth the money.
Hope this helps, happy shoppin'

we've been shopping at Lidl's for nearly 10 years, we buy 90% of our tinned stuff there, corned beef, stewing steak, soup, baked beans also toilet paper, kitchen paper, cheese, fresh and tinned fruit, fresh veg, we buy more stuff at Lidl than we do anywhere else....sometimes we have to shop around cos Lidl dosent stock EVERYTHING we want!!

Lidl is great for the prepper. As others have said, try a tin before bulk buying just to check you like it. I adore the tins of Lidl Chicken Tikka Massala
Its a real shame that they stopped selling their ambient processed cheese triangles.
As someone said above, the hot dog sausages are great and I agree, very, very, nice heated up on the BBQ rather than boiled in a pan (still very acceptable).
Another good thing I find with Lidl as that they seem to use more tins with a ring pull than other supermarkets, saves having to find/remember a tin opener!
Keep your eyes open for their "Taste Of......." Offers. You can mix up your stock of typical tins with things like tinned Greek meatballs, stuffed vine leaves, tins of French dauphinois potatoes etc.
Unscented bleach is cheap there.
Well worth signing up for their emails. They have offers that start on a Monday and a Thursday. Things like wind up torches, rechargeable batteries etc come up pretty regularly. They do sell cheap hand tools at times and while I'm not keen on cheap tools, they may get someone out of a tight spot at some point.
Well worth an initial and continued look.

+1 for Lidl and Aldi if you have one near you. Generally good for weekly offers but try the different cans on offer and once you are happy with the ones you like, STOCK UP!!! Also keep an eye out for things on super special offer, typically they put em on the shelves above the freezers, some repeat deals to be had there.
