Visit to Poundland

Post by Magenta16v »

Well, I went to a decent sized Poundland today to have a general nose around .
Dam place is filled with Xmas and Halloween crap

Anyway . I imagine my eye is not trained as I could not find anything decent . No emergency tents or stuff like that
I had a browse at the food stuff. Not bad really and something's had dates to 2015 .
Hot dogs look ok ? Anybody tried them .

I did however notice some stuff was cheaper in the main supermarkets

You're right! The usual cheapo prepper type stuff has nearly all gone at the moment :( and some stuff *is* cheaper in the ordinary supermarkets - cheapo cornflakes, for instance, and the little green pads to scrub dishes ... a pack of those is 99p or £1 in the cheap shops - in Sainsbo, its 14p!

I think people like to buy the tinned pies they sell there. I have to say I don't think I'd trust the meat in a £1 pie. A bunch of places have their Christmas decorations up, I noticed BHS did and Debenhams is in the process of doing it. The town are also putting the lights up in the centre. This tends to be the best time of year to pick up camping stuff as everyone is selling of the summer stock, being that hardly anyone camps in winter.

The 99p store near me sells thermal hats (Exact copies of thinsulate ones) for (you guessed it) 99p - Use them to go running in and for working around the garden in these cold months, excellent for the price :)

Rice Pudding from any of the big supermarkets is cheap as chips and generally has a use by date of 2015 and would probably be edible after that, for 12p a can you can't really go wrong!

Look in the Halloween / Bonfire Night stuff for glowsticks! In summer they're packaged in boring green packets and generally two to a packet. Bonfire Night comes along and the packaging brightens (easier to find them in the shop!) and the ones I got are 3 to a packet. You can also get a tube of 20 thin glowsticks designed to be turned into kiddies light up bracelets. Good for safe emergency lighting. I keep a pack in my EDC.

Kodak batteries. Poundland. Great for torches, radios etc. tools are good for abusing and throwing out. Always worth a look is Poundland.

Are they any good?

If I recall you can get 10 super glues in there, which even though it's pretty poor quality it's excellent for £1 and still a good strong glue :)

Also some toiletries are cheaper in there than elsewhere. I have a massive stock of Sanex shower gel from my local 99p shop that would be twice as much anywhere else. I've noticed Superdrug lowering their prices to £1.05 to try and keep up. With the toiletries, it's often a case of 'grab it while it's there'. I snapped up a load of my favourite deodorant and they've not had it in since.

Multi-packs of lighters are always by the till. I favour the ones that have a mini torch in the base (yes really) for my EDC. I don't smoke, but a lighter/torch will always be handy :D If you are of the smoking persuasion, there's always multi-packs of rizlas there too.

For low draw kit they are good. They work. The superglue is crap. You have to sift it.
