Peanuts?

Post by JamesMR »

Was randomly looking around the groceries site when I decided to look at peanuts, the nutritional value of them seems fantastic? Plenty of protein, fat, carbs and general calories?

Haven't picked any up yet but I wonder how long they would realistically last when stored?

Peanuts are native to the tropics of the Americas and were mashed to become a pasty substance by the Aztec Native Americans hundreds of years ago,

A super food for survival and no doubt. Energy level release is unreal.

Great for walking long distance and keeping the body's central heating going in winter.

The Tesco honey roasted peanuts are about 2600 calories, the salted and dry roasted are a few hundred less. Natural peanut butter is quite good for you but most the stuff in the stores are packed full of additives and sweeteners and other flavour enhancers.

The below two links are quite good.

I actively *like* Asda smartprice smooth peanut butter, and these are its stats: 91% peanuts, peanut oil, dextrose, palm oil and salt. I think thats really good! 24% protein, 15% carbs. Best before date is a year's length.

And the jars are lovely to re-use - they're practically straight up and down, no awkward crannies to scrape from, the mouth is nice and wide, and there's no lid liner to retain product or germs. I use 5 different sorts of nuts and seeds at any one time, so my main stash stays in the freezer and enough produce for a couple of weeks stays on the cupboard shelves. Win-win-win.
