In a devastated Britain/Ireland with packs of semi-wild starving dogs roaming round, what are the chances of them spreading rabies to humans, or did the disease die out in Britain/Ireland centuries ago? Should all wild dogs therefore be shot on sight as a precaution?
In this clip one bloke tells a rabies victim "I'm going for help", but I always thought it was incurable?-

Rabies in a devastated Britain?
Re: Rabies in a devastated Britain?
i think rabies was iradicated , the only for it to return here is if its brought in from europe via the channel tunnel .i say the tunnel because i can`t see many boats coming across . what you say about dogs going ferral / wild is spot on but for a differant reason .with in weeks they will form packs and hunt as such , starting with smaller breeds and small live stock . chickens ect before moving onto larger animals like sheep and cows . thats if theres any left .
YES i walked away mid sentence , you were boring me to death and my survival instincts kick in .

Treatment within about 10 days is 100% effective (if anything can be 100%). After symptoms start appearing there's nothing can be done and you're pretty much certain to die, although medically induced comas can be effective in some cases.
Rabies is extremely rare in the UK with the only recent cases found in bats in scotland. We don't get vampire bats, so it's unlikely to be a major problem

This thread leads me to suspect Lucky Jim has been watching all 1970's Survivors recently, I just finished the DVD boxset

It won't come through the tunnel. Once the pumps go down wont be long before some sections are flooded.unsure wrote:in from europe via the channel tunnel .i say the tunnel because i can`t see many boats coming across .
