food grade buckets

Can any one help please I have stumbled upon a good supply of buckets complete with lids from my local bakery they have contained icing, pie fillings etc, they have a triangle on the bottom with a 5 inside the triangle are these food grade? The only thing is they do not have the fold over rim on the lid would they still be of use for long term storage?

The '5' means it is polypropylene and can be recycled. These can be used to store food, very handy for keeping insects and vermin away, though not actually airtight. As they come from a baker's its resonable to expect that they are food-safe.

Wont be air tight, but other than that they will be fine if you use Mylar and O2 absorbers.

Yes, you should. It won't affect anything in Mylar but getting your hands covered in rancid 'stuff' when opening your buckets is just going to use up valuable 'other' supplies.

Just washed the first lot, incidentally I have just removed the old labels using a "151 sticker remover kit" top stuff, and only £1 from the local pound shop I have the makers details if any one needs it. Thanks once again for the help.
