Ok this is aquick question and its about a part of the body so I think it shoudl go here. What happens with people who have glasses? Do you get spares and what happens if your eyesight gets worse as you age if something happens?

This is a very weak area in my preps.
I wear glasses all the time, very short sighted and I do not have a spare pair (mainly due to the cost). This will be rectified after christmas.

As regards worsening eyesight. I would suggest having a yearly eyetest and updating glasses as necessary. You can of course buy cheap, off the rack glasses that would do the job if depserate. Try to get as near to your prescription as possible to start and then get stronger ones.

Been thinking about eyes, and teeth too. I'm really lucky that I don't need to wear glasses, even at my age (I have one eye long sighted, and one eye short sighted! No depth vision, but plenty of vision!). But even so, I have a cheapo microscope, and some fresnel lenses, which double as microscopes.

Comes down to being kind to your eyes - resting them whenever you can (think about the number of places where you keep your eyes open when you don't need to!). Eye exercises, a la Bates method?

I wear glasses every day for work. I do have a spare pair, but they are rather scratched and battered - would do in a dire emergency, though I do need to get another pair. Specs tend not to last as long as they should if they are being worn every day, I have found. I also wear contact lenses, and always have a stock of those on hand.

I go to the opticians annually and ever year he give me the old 'your eyes seem to have got a little worse…… let me sell you a new pair of specs'

Starting to think it's all a bit of a swizz

Certainly I've quite a stockpile of old pairs that seem no different to my current ones.

Apparently quite a few Americans get their prescriptions then use them to order in glasses from abroad were they’re much cheaper….might have to look into that.

Thought I would just add, I would recommend getting a pair of safety goggles with the lenses built in behind the safety plastic, I have a pair which I use both in the medical labs and when i'm doing wood work etc, and they are really rebust and well protected. :D
