Hello from south yorkshire

Post by ukprep »

Hello I am prepper based in south yorkshire. I have really prepped for years, but until National Geographic doomsday preppers did not realise anyone else felt the same. Not going to start any conspiracy talks, but what are many people prepping for on here do they believe the 2012 prophecy or are they prepping for something else.

Hi there, welcome to the forum.

In answer to your question, this is not a forum for conspiracists or doomsday theorists. We are primarily concerned practical prepping for situations such as economic disruption, adverse weather, financial collapse and other realistic and plausible scenarios. Some people are moving towards self-reliance, while others aren't.

Please take some time to read around the boards to get a feel for what our community is about.

Yes that is why I prepare I have read a few of the boards I was just wondering why. Everyone has a reason for wanting to prepare if they admit it, or not and I would just like to hear why.

For example my reason for wanting to be more prepared is. I lost all power a few years ago and I hated how it made me feel ofr myself and my family. It then made me look at the world from a different perspective from everyone else. I was just wondering how everyone else got started.

I did post this in the new section and no were else

Hi ukprep

Welcome to the forum. I'm in South Yorkshire also, just outside Rotherham in Kiveton Park.

I started prepping at the beginning of the year following being cut off by snow for a few days and the shops running out of bread, milk etc. I have a disabled wife who needs 24x7 care so I couldn't go far to get supplies. Luckily we had a few loaves in the freezer and dried milk, plus quite a few tins and frozen food so we were ok. It did get me thinking about how we'd have managed if it had gone on for a few weeks though - hence getting started with the prepping.

I have found the people on this forum to be very friendly and knowledgable and willing to share their knowledge and experience. Take a bit of time to read some of the threads and accept the advice in the spirit it is meant and you'll soon fit it. :D

Hello and welcome from East Yorkshire.

Myself, was really brought up surrounded by it - keeping things 'just in case'; trips up to the lakes for holidays and getting the feel of the outdoors; thinking of different ways around problems if something isn't available.

I think one point that stood out for me was a couple of years ago in the snow - couple of inches, no restocking of the shops - seeing everyone complaining no bread and milk in the stores and not knowing what to do - then, as I got back home, needing water to cook with - the pipes frozen - so just opened the back door, took a pan, filled it with snow and melted it. (I also used the melted water to 'refill the toilet' over the next few days.)

Literally half an hour later the next door neighbour comes round knocking on the door asking "have your pipes frozen as-well? What are we going to do?"

From then, I've always thought it was handy to know how to look after myself and those I love.

Same story as mine my gas boiler broke every year at the same time for nearly five years. I now have a plan with a company, but every time it broke it was hell.

I also realised when the snow came down bad a few years ago how fragile everything was and how we go to the shop too much. I know make sure there is a minimum of 3 months in the garage of food and water.

I am also starting to look at alternatives in power and heating

I dont worry about the 2012 thing at all I think the more realistic problem will be goods and money especially with what is happening next year, but I am not going to go political :?
