Cheers.. one thing leads to another I suppose, being prepared spans many lifestyles, and I am sure that being prepared will be a part of it, now that the 2012 silly season is drawing to a close, we can get on and prepare for harder times and change to a more sustainable lifestyle in which being prepared for lifes up's and downs plays as major part as it used to, that instinct that so many demonstrate at this time of year stocking up like crazy for a few days off, is in us and stems back froma time when we had to at this time of year, not because it's xmas, but because it's cold and you could get snowed in, or the things you need on a regular basis could become difficult to get, permaculture has something to offer as do folk like Nickdutch who's experimentations are pioneering in many areas which I am sure will play a part too.
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

I subscribe to Permaculture Magazine and am a member of the Permaculture Association.

Permaculture has it has opened my eyes to more sustainable ways of designing, growing, harvesting water, power issues and generally living in a more sustainable, including social issues. All the designing and preplanning is clearly a 'Prepping' way of looking at things. To me it seems to lay out the ultimate plan for prepping.
I have visited/studied at... a few places that were designed using permaculture principles and they have all inspired me in one way or another, including the following;
Landmatters - http://landmatters.org.uk/
Ragmans Farm - http://www.ragmans.co.uk/home/
Keveral Farm - http://www.keveral.org/
Pentiddy Woods - http://www.permaculture.org.uk/educatio ... iddy-woods
Bulstone Springs Farm - http://www.bulstonesprings.co.uk/
Hackney Community Tree Nursery & Edible Forest Garden - http://sustainablehackney.org.uk/tnefg

There are many places to visit and pick up new skills/awareness. There will be one near you! See here - http://www.permaculture.org.uk/people-p ... ntres/list
Everyone has skills...share your skills....keep them alive. :)

I'm actually starting to wonder if prepping and permaculature/sustainable living aren't one and the same thing. We're driven by our need to be secure, no matter what happens - and a sustainable lifestyle provides that security. It allows us to take a step back from the 'modern age', to a slower, gentler, more sustainable time. And to a time when we could provide what we needed for ourselves, instead of relying on others to do so.

It's a half formed thought. I'll post a bit more when it's joggled round in the back of my mind some more and has a better shape!
