old hand...just joined...still learning

Post by piglet »

Past my 'best by date'. - Female. - Currently South East.

Hello all

I never really thought of myself as a Prepper? But, if I were to lay my credentials on the table I suppose I am not far removed from many here.
I joined this group in the hope that those out there with more skills and knowledge than I would be able to point me in the right direction if and when I need a little informational help.

At the moment I have commitments, but in the future I am hoping to buy myself a small rural/rural...ish bungalow with garden where I can grow a few vegetables, maybe keep a hen or three and perhaps forage a little from surrounding countryside.

In the past I have hunted, fished and foraged for food. - I have worked on farms, kept small livestock, and have worked allotments. – And over the years I built up a fair collection of tools, gadgets and a reasonable skill at adapting devices to new uses.

At the moment I am experimenting with small scale solar and batteries, to supplement mains electricity. I intend to gear that up when I move home but even now at the earliest of stages I am using very little mains powered lighting at all. I don’t intend to go entirely ‘off grid’, but I hope in time, to reduce both my costs and general reliance upon the 'system' as much as possible.

I am still unsure what else I need to know, but always looking for ideas.
