a preppers retreat

Post by mogs »

Hi all, just thought id share something that passed through my mind today

I know many of you probably have bug out locations for SHTF situations but what would you think to a community BOL centrally?
If things dont go south then this share location could be used as a weekend retreat for meets, skill sharing etc......

Here is what I thought....(i'll use 100 people as an example)

if 100 people decided yes...Im in this for the forseeable future, I will be prepping my whole life, wouldnt it be great if those 100 people got together and decided to make a village in effect for SHTF situations or for weekend getaways etc.... safety in numbers and all that jazz!

If those 100 people put £10 a month into a joint pot....over the short space of a year the pot would reach £12'000, 2 years £24'000 and so on.....

Then think of how little you can purchase plots of land for these days......see where im going!

Then think of each of the 100 peoples skills.... together they could create structures, planting beds, security etc......

and the continuous input of £10 a month from each member could fund further growth of the community

long term this could become an actual prepper community with every member having joint ownership of it, passing thier share of the deed down through the ages!

If the SHTF you would have 99 other people by your side ready to survive by any means....

Has my imagination ran away a little far.....!? :D

Hi

I like the thought :)

Would be much better for me if it were maybe 10 folk in the club. Much more realistic & manageable. And once folk bring their families it will be 45 people, not 450!

Much easier for 10 people to make common goals & work towards them, than 100.

And a smaller number makes more geographical sense.

Cool thought tho. Sign me up :)

Cheers

Thought of that but others don't seem to like the concept. But we human are a social species and will need social interaction. It would be good to have though a small bit of land and shelter a little village, and most preppers bring there children up in a decent mindset that they should be prepared, so could work generationally.

Don't think that, that is a mad idea

Without wanting to sound like some sort of hippy, would it not be better to create a community that people can live in from the time that accomodation is built? It's possible to build self contained houses that don't require connection to mains water, sewage or power; it's all sorted out within the house. It then gives you the opportunity to learn to work together before any potential SHTF situation.

My concern would be that you might well find out that the only thing you have in common with someone is prepping; everything else about them might set your teeth on edge, and vice versa.

Not trying to rain on your parade, I think it's a great idea, but I also think you need to refine it a bit, work out the details :)

(Go for off the mainland. A good few miles of ocean is better than any perimeter fence!)

Hi

I was thinking a long term "commune" would be better, but as soon a you take the UK planning regs into account - it makes it impossible / so much work.

At least if you make an occasional community with appropriate facilities, then post SHTF you can get there, & with some resources, build all the houses for a long term community without the red tape!

Cheers

Fair enough. Local planning haven't had the pleasure of meeting me. Yet *grins evilly*

Still say off the mainland though. Makes a hell of a lot of sense!

i completely get your point, was just a passing thought today whilst at work! i would want it to have permanent buildings there for that kind of thing but obviously hadnt thought through every detail, would be something to discuss with the other people wanting to be involved and decided as a group so everyone could have input.

i can well imagine that there will be certain individuals that get on your nerves but it would be very similar to the way we feel about certain people now! except in closer proximity! haha

I would want it to be as off the grid as you can find in the UK! there are pros and cons of mainland and sea locations, itd have to be researched in length in order to find the perfect position. :D
