general all-round prepping book?
Does such a thing exist? Maybe something aimed at a newbie that covers a wide range of topics? Already got plenty of outdoor survival type books on my shelves.

Maybe Cody Lundin When All Hell Breaks Loose, but that does not really talk about farming/growing.nightowl wrote:Does such a thing exist? Maybe something aimed at a newbie that covers a wide range of topics? Already got plenty of outdoor survival type books on my shelves.
When All Hell Breaks Loose and The Essential Guide to Back Garden Self-sufficiency: Feed Your Family from a Quarter of an Acre or Less would cover a lot of things. Two books aren't bad.

The Doom Guide is about as general as you can get
http://www.doomguide.com/
It is periodically updated, so check back once in a while to see what new info has been added in the current edition

"How to survive the end of the world as we know it" - James Wesley Rawles. A bit American, slightly OTT (depending on what you are prepping for), but not quite as gun oriented as I had expected, and almost completely religious diatrabe free. Covers all the basics quite well and is no where as paranoid and anti-government as the content of his website (which actually has some gems of information now and again).
I'm in Area 7 !

Yes, you can pick one of three options; they can send you a bound copy, or you can download in either full page or booklet format.munchh wrote: how cool is that its a download too!

Re: general all-round prepping book?
All of the above. I don't think there could BE a definitive book on the subject. The prepping/ survivalist genre(whatever the scenario) is complex. Personally speaking, if I had to narrow it down, it would be;
When Hell breaks Loose-Cody Lundin
Back Garden Seed Saving-Sue Stickland
Urban Survival-Ragnar Benson
Make Your Garden Feed You- ET Brown (a wartime re print)
Just my take. Feel free to shout me down!

In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.
Robert Frost.
Covid 19: After that level of weirdness ,any situation is certainly possible.
Me.

I've alway found army pocket books useful, they have tried and tested methods for survival and are likely to work with the equipment you've already got! Though you do have to skip the boring bits about drill and such!
