From Snowing Chaos to Flooding Disasters in a Week!!
This week we have gone from chaos caused by the snow, to major flood warnings!! The weather in Wales has already gone down hill today with torrential rain pouring down as expected and it is set to get a lot worse tomorrow. With flooding to homes and businesses sounding very likely, what are your views on preparing for this type of occasion? Does a water pump sound like a good idea?

Just round the corner from me all the houses have pumps fitted in the cellars, just depends on your assessment of risk in your own situation and the cost of getting one vs. the chance you'll ever need it. Personally I'm a few meters higher than those with pumps and if I ever get flooded then half the city will be under water anyway. My postcode does fall within the Environment Agencies flood risk area which is a pain in the rear for insurance purposes and trying to sell the house even though it's never actually flooded in the 100~ years it's been hereallewellin wrote:This week we have gone from chaos caused by the snow, to major flood warnings!! There's a HUGE low pressure heading in from the NW. We're going to get battered over tomorrow/tomorrow night. Winds gusting into the 80's on exposed coast (that's us) and into the 60's everywhere else. We've also got a variety of yellow warnings for rain, spray and wave overtopping.
Normal winter weather has resumed!

Hello all
I'd heard about this too, although we don't seem to have it so bad here yet! Only preparation I have is extra food so we don't have to go out in it. We are on the top of a slight slope in our street, so I'd be more worried about floods if we were at the end of the street. So far, we seemed to have escaped the worst of the last lot of floods, although there are areas around the county regularly cut off, fields of water, etc...
On another forum, I've heard about more artic weather coming in February too, don't know if it's true, but seems to be a reliable source. Apparently around 13-18th Feb. The poster there had warned about our cold spell in Jan, and that proved right, so I had got extra warm outer clothes in, and snow trax for boots already....
Hope everyone stays safe, warm and dry.

Just checked our forecast again - it pays to pay attention when it comes to weather - and we're still due force 10 plus tonight.
Next week though, we're due more storm force 10 plus gusts - and snow
We very very rarely get snow. The forecast could very well change between now and then - it's common for it to do so. But snow, at 70mph? Jeez!

Are we meant to be having more snow?! That coupled with the floods that we are having already spells disaster haha!
Been looking at this water pump, http://www.toolsandpowertools.co.uk/pro ... gine-hy50/, sounds like a good one to help with the flooding
Sounds like Wednesday is going to be horrible, Met Office has given flood warnings and wind warnings.
