New everyones want to do everything at once. I try to see it as enthusiasm, and not something to be shut down but directed!

I think the hardest thing is to teach folks that they really don't need to rush out and go into debt/bankrupt themselves buying all sorts of gadgets and gizmos. I'm talking from a crafting PoV as much as anything; start small, work up, get to know what you're doing, before you start buying stuff to do it, because there's a good chance you don't need half of what you think you do!

The main thing is accepting that building up stocks takes time. If you buy it all in bulk, it all goes off in bulk

Is it impatience or is our human reasoning and inner feeling that all is not well in the world.
We need to be ready as much as the next man and his family, so many will rush.
It is so clear we are on a planet that is changing, weather paterns, sea levels, sun activity are having an affect of food supplies and demographics and population i.e. failed crops three years running so there is low grain stock and land at sea level flooding to name but two...I don't see peoples impatience I see an awakening of our animal sences to protect our familys.

Isn't most the fun (and long term practicality) from learning the skills to make what we need?
Yes, I'd like top of the range high altitude pressure cookers and multi-fuel fold up stoves, but a pan+lid & knowing (and practicing) how to make fuel efficient stoves from tins, bricks or fire pits gives you a sense of accomplishment, security in knowing you can leave your kit behind if you have to and it won't make much of a difference, but it's also a bit of fun.
We're all learning tricks and trades in the hope we'll never need them, how many here honestly believe the end is nigh? There's good chance SHTF will happen to some degree but it's more than likely some time away, so why not enjoy preparing.
To me and, from what I've read, most members here are prepping as a hobby that has practical uses instead of spending time & money building model railways or collecting figurines.

If we're snowed in/car breaks down/power cuts/etc... happens, it's not a horror story like it is for most, it's an amusing anecdote for our hobby, a situation that we'll enjoy (at least more than everyone else). A "done & dusted" attitude doesn't allow for that amusement from those unpleasant situations.
