I am into flint knapping and i am looking for a good source of flint in the Colchester area. If anyone can help, then that would be great.
Thanks

Ooh! I can't help with a source, but I looked at your title and thought "Phil Harding!" Hope you find some, its a wonderful skill.

I would sugest walking the fields and seeing what you can find also try the local museum or libary for local histroy books to see if there was any flint industry around there. Sorry not to be more help If you had asked about fint in Norfolk no problems

Must be flint around, I googled "Colchester Flint" and got St Botolph's Priory..... Its built of flint rubble and it was never very rich so there must be a source nearby

I might be completely off track with this - but can you buy a sack of flint pebbles from garden centres and the like?
Not too pricey and lots to practice on.......
I might have the wrong rock tho! Lol
Cheers

Just go to the beach, any sedimentary coastal rock is generally littered with the stuff.
Take the dog and kids to the beach, they play in rock pools, you hammer off big chunks of flint. At the end of the day, have a BBQ. Kids have a great time, dog gets exercise, you get flint + parent points. Everyone wins!
