Afternoon, just registered and posted on a few threads and but noticed the new members area.

Hello... I am a new member.

Came across this forum after deciding a few others were either too politcal or too narrow minded. This place seems to be the one for me. Been an active bushcraftist for the past six years or so, however my focus has been aimed at prepping over the past six months. Recently got into Archery, specifically compound bow (as I like modern toys). Keen knife collector and woodsman.

Welcome! I'd love to learn how to use a compound bow. I tried archery once and loved it, but then other things seemed to take over. I did recently enquire of a local archery club near me (well two actually but one never responded) but apparently they were full so I am out of luck for the moment it appears... And I don't think they allowed compound bows anyway.

Yeah most archery clubs like to turn their noses up at compound bows as they're modern, powerful and accurate. They'll stand their with their Longbows or Recurves trying their best to talk down to you as they quickly draw back and release a poorly balanced wooden arrow into a target 20 yards away... and miss half the time. Whereas after time with a compound bow you can draw up ready with a carbon fibre arrow before your target comes scurrying along, hold the weight of the draw on the cams and wait to release once you're settled in the kill zone. 77 yards has been my longest bull on the first arrow, doubt i'll ever pick up a "traditional" bow.

P.S. No offense to traditional archers - I have alot of respect for you guys, and the old ways - but I'd prefer to get the job done with the least amount of hassle and loss of precious materials.

Welcome! Ooh, compound bows sound good! Don't know anything about archery, and I'm only drawn to it from the prepping angle so not been to a club previously. Love the herbal angle too, look forward to reading more about that as well when appropriate

Urgh, archery snobbery! Almost as bad as yummy mummy school gate gossips!

I'll keep looking for a club, just have to travel a bit further!
