Cool Shelter

Post by latrocinium »

Ok, it's hardly indestructible... But fairly cool if you have the cash!

Cheaper to buy a 20 ft steel container , or for that money 10 of them .

What is the point of the sail above it ...... can see them being snapped up to house posh festival gowers as per usual too dear for relief efforts , how many tent packs can you get in a 20 ft container ?

It makes me think of the prefab housing that was built in this country after the Second World War - that was supposed to be for 10 years or so, but I remember it still standing in the 1970s ...

As for the sail - I wonder if thats simply for shading? Bit too fancy tho!

I quite like the idea of a vermin-proof cabin that can be lifted up to avoid minor floods ...

I think the sail is for shade. The roof last 3 years. So that means the structure is good for 3 years not 10.

Still going strong in Glasgow , possibly due to the vast amounts of asbestos in them . But yes they are still standing

Same here.

Mind you, a couple of years ago a row of them near me got skinned in brick by a local builder.... I think the rest of the prefab is entombed inside

Still have many Canadian unit pre-fabs around here, lots of problems with them such as damp but with a bit of money spent they can look a lot better and last for many years to come.

The sail/tarp above may be useful for keeping the sound of rain off the roof and for additional shading, but that is probably about all.

If deployed for more than a few weeks it would probably be prudent to have something a bit more substantial for the roof, but otherwise it looks reasonably sturdy  Just the cost for us mere mortals may be a bit high :(
