Hello and welcome to the Form. :)

First off, well done for recognising something needs to be done and that the only help you will really get is from yourself.

Take your time and read through the posts, there are some very knowledgeable people here.

As I go camping in the woods twice a month, kit and stores checking becomes second nature, either when rotating old for new or going away camping it all gets checked over.

Canned food and water is a great start, Buy food that you and the other half would eat normally. I use cleaned 2 litre pop bottles to store tap water and rotate that twice a year.

Welcome. But I do think that maybe focusing on "bugging out" and not focusing on storing food could be a mistake. And what if you get sick or injured? A good first aid kit can be a wondrous thing if you need it. And what about emergency lighting and heating? Emergency sources of power? These things IMHO could come first and could be a wiser move if you are thinking about your longer term survival.
Its time without money that any economic muckups could bring about and being able to do some shortish term survival without money to keep you fed could be considered by some to be a higher priority.
Maybe even thinking about home growing so that you can cut down food bills in the future, or if not that, then maybe sprouting so that you have a variety of salad vegetable that you can grow at home in the winter.

im starting to learn how to grow potatos and cabbage also carrots i am going to start planting sum salad bits aswell. you mentioned about storing food the only problem is i live with my gf in her mums house so dont really have much room for storage but was looking how people have got little hideout spots for containers and such things was thinking about looking into it abit more but very unsure about it. i have a basic first aid kit but am buying bits n bobs to make it better and have more things in such as pain killers. i never new how much planning would have to go into this but im glad i started now before its too late :)

In times of Martial Law, I'd imagine that the military will want to be the only ones with any form of weapon available, so suspect you'll be less likely to get away with carrying anything that could be used as a weapon.
