Hi there,
I've just signed up after a colleague recommended the forum.
I have many interests, and one of them has always been civil defence and related topics. From the Home Guard of the 1940s through to the 'Protect And Survive' cold war era stuff. My father was a Royal Observer Corps volunteer, and I suppose that's really where my 'prepper' interest stems from. I do appreciate that prepping isn't necessarily related to nuclear armageddon, and I do appreciate just living a simple life, and I guess that's what prepping is too.
Lately my interests have turned to small engines and power generation, and it was from discussions about these things that my colleague pointed me this way.
So, just saying Hi All.
Hi All.
Regards,
Steven.

Hello and welcome to the Forum.

You seem to have a nice mindset/background and seem as if you have a lot to share.

I remember being shown the protect and survive video's at school and reading the booklet.
Just about all those old observation posts are still out there, have you visited any?

Hi,
I posted a reply up earlier but it seems to have gone missing?
A lot of the old Royal Observer posts are still out there, most that I have ever found have been cleaned out for their goodies but they still exist
I would love to have a list of all the Rotor bunkers out there.
I know that one sold for circa £20k years back in the late 1990's

Thanks for the welcome guys.

I hope I can contribute to this community. I know how it is as a forum mod to just see people register, ask their question, receive help, and disappear into obscurity without so much as a simple 'thank you'. I'll try and offer before I take - though there is a heck of a lot of info here to learn from!
Thanks again,
S.

Re: New user - Cambridgeshire.
Hiya C.Max,
Indeed, I have visited a couple which were open already. I used to be a Secretary to an airfield archaeology type group, and we visited a few. I have visited locked posts to, but only taken photos of the surface structures.
My fathers post (Sawtry, in the Bedford sector) was filled in and now provides the foundations to a mobile phone mast.
When I was involved with the airfield group, we once hooked up with some 'urbexy' types and visited the ROTOR bunker at Holmpton (formerly RAF Patrington). Here's a vid of that visit : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vo275Q6XBVI
If you are interested in a list of ROTOR bunkers, surely there must be one on Nick Catfords website? Have you been to Subterannea Brittanica : http://www.subbrit.org.uk/category
(just select Nuclear Monitoring Posts, or Nuclear Bunkers from the list.
Generally I keep clear of the urbex scene, and I despise anyone who go's into an ROC post to take things "because if I don't do it someone else will"... Anyone who takes something ought to give it to the ROC museum, or a museum such as Newark Air Museum who have ROC themed displays.
Regards,
Steven.
