Medical kits

Post by deang12 »

I have recently done lots of medical training and did 3 months in Borneo as one of the medics.
In the UK we are very limited to getting are hands on medicine and we can buy antibiotics or strong painkiller in the chemists. But i have found some websites and some medical kits which contains theses drugs.
In a SHTF situation you will need more then just paracetamol and antiseptic cream. You will be dealing with knifes, machetes, firearms and more and could easier have a deep cut which requires suturing and a course of antibiotics and a standard £5 medical kit will not be enough.
The websites are- www.anytimedoctor.com (Medipac), www.interhealth.co.uk/store and www.equip-me.co.uk as well as drugs from you local pharmacy. Kits can be brought from www.boundtree.co.uk, www.spservice.co.uk and www.nomadtravel.co.uk.
If you want to improve your medical kit then buy some of these items and get a few 500ml of saline solution, iv glucose, lidocaine, adrenaline in 1ml ampules as 1ml can do 3 doses and an epi pen is 1 and cost a lot more. I would also get some trauma items like a chest seal and drain and some sterile items to suture wounds. I do understand that buying separate drugs requires prescriptions but try you best and get what you can.

The problem with adrenaline amps, or epipens is the very short expiry date

Lignocaine/suture material needs a significant level of medical knowledge to use safely - I'd suggest superglue for wound closure [as pioneered by the US special forces during spec ops]

Superglue is great for closing minor cuts, but if the cut is a bit deep then it won't hold very good and also there is a great risk of infection. Suturing is not hard but the most important thing is to make sure the wound is very clean before trying any closure.

Use the medical stuff though:

I'd stick (no pun intended  ) to direct digital pressure and bandages myself.
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.
