My Hotel Bag

Currently I am building a bag for what may be a prolonged/enforced stay in an hotel. It is, if you like, our bug out bag. This is in case of the gas leak/fire/armed siege(that one happened next door,once!)we have a bag of clothes, so the hotel bag will have things like cash, phone chargers, toiletries, documents. This will be for one adult bloke, and two adult ladies.
I would be very grateful for suggestions please-just so I don't forget the snottin' obvious!

List of hotel telephone numbers - whilst others are driving there; you're booking in.

List of takeways/restaraunts - whilst others are booking in to the hotel, you're ordering pizza for your room.

List of phone numbers that are stored on everyone's mobiles in case networks are down.

Pack of cards

Books

Laptop batteries charger and a few decent family films

Teabags,coffee etc, you only get 2/3 drinks at a hotel nowhere near enough for 4.

Bottle of squash/powdered Bolero drink as water gets boring after a while

Documents - everything you can think of, especially if there's been a house fire! Finances, pension, government documents, driving licence, insurance company, investments, anything. Plus a list of your fave website user names and passwords.

Do you have a flash drive to back up your computer? I did this exercise last winter, and it took me weeks - but one of the easiest things to do was buy a 32G flash drive and put the entire contents of my laptop onto it.

Also advise some cash - if there's been a more generalised problem, and you have to bug out to a hotel but their electricity is down, they may be taking bookings but only accepting payment in cash - think Cyprus recently ... so have some cash, in something waterproof.

That's the stuff, you can mix them with water- hot or cold or milk.

I go for the mixed variety packs to stop getting flavour fatigue. Bar one, all flavours are great.

The writer's idea of packing your own pillow cases, plus top and bottom sheet is a good one - you will be certain that the bedding is clean and it'll be a bit of home. Easily packed too - the sheets folded up will fit in a pillow case. I've had to stay in some grim Travelodges / Premier Inns (got bedbug bitten in one of them ). Having the foresight to pack a bit of my own bedding would have made it more pleasant.

Oh and maybe a pack of cleaning wipes so you can be sure the bathroom surfaces are clean if it looks a bit dodgy.

Brilliant! Things there I would never have thought of. On a recent trip to the seaside, my dear lady's new designer trousers tore(she is very proud of her appearance my Jan) She had to buy some more, but agreed that a sewing kit would have been good. So that is going in the bag. First aid, a radio, torch,Swiss Army Knife(the tweezers, toothpick and scissors are too useful) a leatherman, for the pliers mainly. Bit of grub, medications-the list goes on...

Loo roll I hate to think how many times I have had to ask a hotel for a new roll Animal hotel bag if you are taking your pets with you, with vets info and food for them. Notebook to write down important phone numbers and your insurance reference numbers Yes I know you will have your phones and other electronic stuff with you but just in case it does not work you will still have some info you can get to with out them

I have always kept a hotel bag in my car as I drive/travel over 100 miles a day. And it is only ever taken out periodically to check that everything is still fresh.

I currently live in the south east of England where as soon as we get an inch of snow the whole road system grinds to a halt.
Last year when it snowed I did not get stuck but every road into my home town was queued back for miles and going nowhere fast, and preventing me from even attempting to get home.

It's just a rucksack with a change of clothes and washing equipment and a couple of other odd and sods that make life that little bit easier.
Now I work in an office and wear light clothing but, I also keep a heavy raincoat and warm trousers and shoes in there, as I am always amazed at the number of people who have broken down on the motorway and are standing there on the embankment, in the pouring rain or snow and wind, wearing what can only be considered summer clothing.

Now I do not have a large car and my hotel bag combined with things like a petrol can, snow shovel, salt etc which live in there all year around, (because I know I would forget to put them in otherwise), take up quite a bit of space in my car boot, and people sometimes laugh at me for that. But they are also the people who claim to have been stuck in snow, broken down on the side of the road without a coat, or had to stay in a hotel and return to work the next day without even a change of underwear
