food preservation

Post by grenfell »

Came across this on the net , I dare say a lot of you will know much of it already but it may be worth a read for some. There's some interesting stuff in there covering salting , drying , preserving with sugar , canning and so on along with a section covering spoiling.

On the preserving front...

Today I made 6 X jars blackberry jam.
Prepped a load of rosehips for the dehydrator which is humming merrily away now.
I also ordered a small chest freezer to store various surplus allotment goodies, especially home-made oven chips.

More jam making tomorrow..and Wednesday..and Thursday...and probably Friday as well to help clear the glut of blackberries and blackcurrants.

Weekend I'll be making blackberry wine (ready for Christmas).

:O)
