Socks

Have re-learnt how to make socks and turn the heel. They have turned out too big for me and I wondered if there is a way off learning how to work out the number of stitches required for the initial cast on and then around the foot. Also preferred wool brands other knitters like please.

Cant you just learn to make "tube" socks? I dont now the technicals but maybe they would save you a lot of grief if you are planning on turning them out a lot
