Calling all serious preppers

Post by A.Ibanez »

Hello,

My name is Aaron, I'm 20 years old, currently studying Journalism at the University of Huddersfield.

I'm absolutely fascinated with doomsday prepping and I was wondering if some of you could help me.

As a part of my course, (so completely off record) I'm looking to devise a study on Prepping in the UK and I would be really interested in meeting and seeing the work of those who are dedicating their lives to prepping.

In my study I want to get an insight into prepping and answer some of the fundamental questions, finding out what motivates you, what extent you are going to and how much its costing you.

Its early days, so I don't want to jump into any arrangements just yet, but just to get the ball rolling, I'd love to know who's interested.

Thanks

Aaron

Hello and welcome to the Forum Aaron.

A bit harsh with the title insinuating that some preppers are just playing at it. :?

Just a word to the wise,

1. Prepping isn't all about Doomsday.

2. Most preppers will never give complete and factual answers to all questions due to OPSEC.

3. Portrayl by the Media and TV stations has soured some Preppers to answering any questions.

4. Nothing is ever off the record, you are doing a study and therefore factual information and source material must be produced.

5. This Forum would not want to be mentioned in your study. Read this: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=4299

Having said that, some here may wish to assist you.

Hope all goes well for your studies.

I have a handful of tins of beans in case there is a delay in my pay. It really wouldn't be all that enticing for your audience just to photograph some beans.

seriously.

Most of us aren't doomsday prepping, if you read just a few threads you'll see that, then you wouldn't need help, no form of study by any journalist is good news for prepping in the UK especially if they can jump in to a forum such as this and quickly get the idea that our lives are dedicated entirely to prepping, they aren't the forum is.
In my study I want to get an insight into prepping and answer some of the fundamental questions, finding out what motivates you, what extent you are going to and how much its costing you.

Again I'd say you could get a good idea across the board by reading thoroughly, even as regards cost, and about motivation, no I'd say you're looking for OTT people perhaps a little or a lot paranoid about the end of the world as we know it, whom you can portray to the masses for your financial gain and career enhancement as loonies :tinfoil for most of us here worst case SHTF scenario talk isn't thought of as a going to happen thing, it's merely used as a base line to visualize what the best mix of stuff would be, and in honesty that is because many of us who probably did have stuff kicking around which we now would call "preps" got interested as a result of seeing "doomsday preppers" in seeing how a mentality like that would apply here in the UK, and for the most part it doesn't.
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

i believe that prepping is a built in instinct to survive any on coming crisis. a wise man can play the fool but the fool cannot play the wise man, good luck with your studies.

Most of us prep for unemployment, harsh winter weather and power cuts. In todays society, there are a lot of youngsters and young adults haven't a clue when it comes to standing on their own 2 feet assuming mum and dad and the gov will be there to help - but life isn't always like that. What we do is serious but very few of us are "doomsday preppers" - that was an American show. Most of us are far more down to earth. It is serious prepping to ensure that you have a few weeks of food in the house rather think that you can always pop to the corner shop. As others have said - read the forums that you can read and that should give you all the ideas you need. Good luck with your studies.

I guess you backup your coursework in case your hard drive fails? Yes of course you do so in fact you are a 'prepper'. You just need to expand on that thought....
I recently experienced Plymouth City centre so that's why I prep.
