When the housing market fell to bits in 08/09 I was carpentry foreman for a building firm in central London. After retuning to work after Xmas break only to be laid off the same day my wife and I decided to leave the uk buy a van and see where we ended up. We had a great adventure. 4 years later we have a 2 yr old boy a 3 yr old american bull dog and have just bought or own place in Normandy northern France where you really can still get value for money.

We are already bugged out and slowly but surely building up our supplies for the future.

We have a great space 2.5 acres, 3 natural wells, barns, workshops pig stys and house.
We plan to be self sufficient as best we can on very limited resources.
I have been in to prepping for a long time and am chuffed to have found your resourceful site. I restore old tools and look forward to sharing some of that with you.

Welcome! That sounds really interesting - land is a lot cheaper in northern France, for sure, and the woodpiles of even very ordinary houses can be magnificent

Beach combing was a little disappointing think we were a bit late. Got a nice piece of oak, some netting and half an oyster sack that am going to do some mouse proofing with until we get a cat in the new year.
The tide was in so no razor clams for lunch, should have checked that really, doh.

Just been out and picked the last of the blackberries can't believe there are any left! Most going in the dehydrator and the rest in tonight's crumble.

Thanks for your message. We haven't been here a long time, less than 6 months (only managed to get the internet on on Friday!)in total so are still exploring the area. I would like to hope that there are other preppers in the area but haven't met any yet. There are many farmers here who by nature are preppers.
My neighbour, a farmer and an absolute legend is one of the hardest working men I have ever come across. He is up at 5 every morning stops an hr for lunch and doesn't usually finish til 8.30 - 9 7 days a week 365 days a year. He is well in to his 60's and put both me and my brother in-law to shame when he helped us unblock my storm drains.
