Re: New User
What am I prepping for? Hmm, good question, I guess the easy answer is that disaster can happen at any time, often with little to no warning.
The mass destruction can leave people cutoff from the outside world for days. Emergency rescuers will soon be there to help following a disaster, but it may take time before they are able to get to you. I dont like the idea of being in a elevator when the light's go out!
To that end I did a little research on them and found that some but not all of them have an escape hatch, the emergancy services would tell you not to go climbing around in a elevator shaft especially if the power comes back on, so it's knowing what to do in that situation. First step is open the inner door's if you can, this trips the lift into staying stationary and then and only then proceed with your devised escape route and that's if your lucky enough to be in an elevator with an escape hatch. Most of them are hidden behind the roofing panel with the lights and they should have them by law in the event of FIRE but you'd be amased how many of them dont.
Here's video of what it can be like to stuck in a lift with no rescue for just two days!
Be always ready!
