Unfortunately, he is getting out of farming and has done a deal for that particular area of his land for house development. I paid him 5 years upfront out of my redundancy money. I will get a 3 year refund. I have a 1 year notice though.
So... Come the Spring I will get rid of the stock, and move half the rabbits back home. I have a buyer for the polytunnels,as of 20 minutes ago. So I think I will grow an onion and potato crop next year and that will be that!
So what does this have to do with prepping? Well, I was making serious gold out of produce(compared to the input),and we are saving serious dosh too. Right now the tunnels are full of salads , Christmas spuds, kales and Chinese greens. And they are not coming down 'til Spring. So I have to find an alternative system. This land really helps to keep our pantrys stocked.
I am fortunate in that I have a large garden. This afternoon I started to lay out the garden to maximise production. I have a greenhouse and 6 fowls there anyway. There are fruit trees and bushes. There is 400 square foot of bare earth and a large (spare ) paved area for containers. I am going the route of deep beds, to maximise output. I will also develop the container side. I had some good results this year, so that is promising.
So if you will forgive my rambling, that is how I am preparing right now.
