Hello all.
After you filter the water collected im guessing you can drink it. However iv read from various sources that this is a bad idea, just wondering if anyone has tried this or has thought about it.
Im able to keep my dehumidifier working in the event of a power cut, if the water is cut aswell this could be a handy was to get water.
Any pros/ cons to this?
Am i asking for trouble doing this?
Dehumidifier water
Re: Dehumidifier water
i have one as well , for the same reasons you mention ,
i don`t know the answers but i should think if you filter it or boil it, it would be fine .
i do stand to be corrected if any one knows a solid reason for not using it .
please can we stay away from the chemical attack/ radiation type answers
as we all ready know they are bad for you .

Its grey water. Its got lead and all kinds of microbes and bacteria that could make you seriously ill.
If you did want to use it, DISTIL it and don't just filter it.
Alternatively use it in the steam cleaner, to top up the car battery and in the steam iron.

microbes and bacteria , i can see were they would come from , but were did the lead come into it .
surely this is just water pulled out of thin air .

Re: Dehumidifier water
One thing iv seen from quite a few people is boiling wont work as the metallic elements from the coil and solder used will still remain.
Im guessing that the same goes for condensing tumble dryers aswell then.
Il have to look into distillation then, i know the theory but not the practice

Re: Dehumidifier water
A member of my family has a Samsung Dehumidifier - I remember flicking through the manual - It had a graph in it showing a comparison of the 'Grey Waters' contaminates something like 40% more contaminates than unfiltered water. (I imagine they have taken water from the tap for comparison?).
I did see somewhere that you could buy a machine that will produce water from air that is safe to drink - I'll have a look and post it later if I can find it..
