Hi all
Prepping for power outage due to whatever reason, and the civil and social unrest which will inevitably follow. Stockpiling non perishable food items, got a generator etc etc.
Water is a tricky one, very bulky to store and not really sure at the moment about filtration/purification techniques.
Quite a few jerry cans of diesel for vehicles and petrol for generator but I feel that this is a commodity which you will never have enough of.
Bugging out too hazardous in my opinion so aiming to bug in ,hopefully recruit extended family members if shtf but at the moment the opinion of said relations is that all this is unnecessary overkill.Close family is well up for it apart from teenage daughter!
Work away from home up to 100 miles away so are getting together a collection of kit for the van for overnight snow ins, snow chains, jump units, sleeping bags etc
Best do summat, than nowt !

I can tell you what we are doing for water storage if that's any help. It might spark an idea or two for you. We're using 45 Gallon fruit juice containers. They're basically black containers that will reduce any potential algae growth by blocking most of the light. These will be stored both indoors and outdoors and refilled every six months or so. We'll use water filters when we need drinking water.
Longer term, we're looking at getting large water butts as well, linking them to the drain pipe system.
I'm sure there are many ways to sort water out... I'd love a well in the garden. That'd be awesome.

Hello, same here
I think darkness is on the way to, its going to cause lots of problems as nothing will work for 99 out of 100 people.
And thats how i stumbled on the prepping lifestyle after a cold night in the van due to snow

Evening all
M89r- many a winters day that I've left in the morning and its been a reasonable forecast, but get to three in the afternoon and snow comes down. Not been stranded yet but came close a couple of times. I count myself a good driver in these conditions but sadly novice numptys can block lots of the ways home. Small scale prepping compared to lots on here, but quite a realistic scenario.
Cromicon, thanks for the info, my gardening water butt gets very green looking very quickly. What condition is the water in your black containers after a number of months? Forgive my ignorance but what water filters are you utilising?
