Wabbits !

Post by diamond lil »

Wouldn't count on any rabbit stew for a bit, they are saying here that a new virus is wiping them out. I haven't seen a rabbit around here for 2 years now, and this must be the reason.

Cue the "mixing my toasties" joke

I've heard it said that you can eat a myxomatosis rabbit as the infection is species specific but I don't recall being that hungry recently.

Mixy rabbits are fine to eat- because you don't eat the head. It's a brain disease.

Freezing rabbits you must a big freezer! I'm jealous. What I do is boil up a few in a big soup pan until the meat falling off, then strip all the meat off and freeze that. lots of little bags of frozen white meat ready to add to anything from curries to stews.
Nothing wasted what's left is fed to the assorted animal life around the house, mainly the cats and dogs.
Never noticed any decline in numbers up here if fact there always seems to be too many especially in my veg patch.

They're everywhere down here, in fact it can be difficult to not run them over at night :(

What are the physical symptoms of a rabbit with mixy?
