Hey,
Some of you have probably realized I'm quite the beginner when it comes to prepping so I could use some help/advice.
I'm starting an EDC and have next to no idea where to start despite watching countless YouTube videos since they all seem to be very advanced.
Not interested in spending a lot straight away, so some cheaper items would be great.
Just some short suggestions would be okay
Thanks in advance
Beginner Needing Some Help
Beginner Needing Some Help
Imagine society as a sinking ship.
Most of the passengers are ignoring the warnings and denying that the ship will sink.
A select few however, are already in a lifeboat.

Re: Beginner Needing Some Help
An Everyday Carry.
Depends on what you think you might need it for and what sort of bag you are prepared to carry.
So mine contain
A small first aid kit
Hand sanitiser and tissues
Ladies things
Cash and cards
In winter gloves, hat etc
In summer suncream
Mobile phone
Bottle of water
Small snack of dried fruit/cereal bar
If I am going further a field I would probably carry a map/ a-z of that area.
This is all contained in a flowery over the body bag which doesn't look it of place.
If I feel I have need of it I may carry a multi tool (hidden in the depths)
I was trying to download a list off SurvivalMom but couldn't so I can't vouch for how good it is.

Hope that helps

It depends where you are and how much you can carry
also legally you can only carry a small none locking knife ...
so
small none locking knife,
basic first aid kit
small torch,
condom (water carrier)
cash,

My Pocket Carry is
Knife (locker to and from work, nonlocking at other times)
Torch (is also an emergency power-pack for my phone)
Lighter (Clipper..... Blase Orange so I know its mine )
Coin purse (stops the coins from wearing through the fabric)
House key (on a safety pin )
Phone
Pen and notebook (A7 spiral bound )
Season ticket (train) and ID
Multitool
My Bag holds
Toilet paper
FAK plus a FFD (the big one)
Hand sanitiser (alcohol based)
Bug repellent
Sun block (spf 30, its a stick rather then cream)
Spare lighter
Needles and thread
Safety pins
Blister packed tablets*(two different OTC painkillers and Imodium)
Mirror
Paracord
£5 in twenty pences
Second torch (a wind-up about the size of a matchbox)
Tape, Gorilla and gaffer
Rainproofs
Waterbottle
Tin mug
Some other stuff
I train commute and work as a folklift driver so I wear boots and dress for outdoors
*bottles rattle and you really don't want to carry tabs loose in a ziplock
My Minimum EDC would be:
Knife (sub-three inch non-locking folder)
Torch, LED and using common a battery (AA or AAA) is probably best
Fire, matches in a waterproof case or a butane lighter
Phone
Cash (UK phoneboxes now take 3X20p as a minimum charge)
Something to write with and on
Pack of tissues or some T roll

Re: Beginner Needing Some Help
The main thing to remember is you probably own a lot of good EDC kit already, you just need to sort it out and make a point of carrying it.
This is a prep with a time-cost rather then a cash-cost.
Not to say that you can't spend a lot of cash on gear, just that you don't have to.
My multitool probably costs as much as all the rest of my EDC (both Bag and Pocket carries) including my phone

Everything that everyone else said but I never leave home without a pencil sharpener. Got to have one, preferably of the metal variety, in your EDC/GHB/BOB. One hundred and one uses for a sharpener, I posted about it's many uses a while ago. Cotton wool balls too. Little tub of Vaseline perhaps. Oh, and some charcoal and a cotton bandana. Perhaps some blister plasters if you have the space.
I recently experienced Plymouth City centre so that's why I prep.

You and your pencil sharpeners lol. Must admit though, after your posts a while back a pencil sharpener is now part of my EDC.Briggs wrote:Everything that everyone else said but I never leave home without a pencil sharpener. You can go over the top and get into the habit of carrying a loaded bug out bag around, but where do you stop?

Re: Beginner Needing Some Help
For me EDC is what I have on my person every day, it is not about an extra bag and extra kit that I have to keep remembering to pick up, or needing to wear combat trousers all the time so I have a pocket for this and a pocket for that etc.
So for me my EDC would consist of:
Wallet/Cards/Cash
Small LED Lenser key ring torch K2
Leatherman Squirt PS4 Multi-Tool (Non locking blade)
Keys (house/car/work etc)
Mobile phone
Watch
Couple of plastic bags
Tissues
Anti-histamine/paracetamols (kept in Wallet)
Antiseptic/Wet wipes (individually wrapped - like the KFC ones!! - again kept in wallet)
And that would be about it.
First aid kits, water bottles, shelter, food, spare clothing, fire starting kits etc etc are not (to me!!) EDC, I do of course have these as well, but they are in either my GHB (Get home bag) which is kept in the car, or my BOB.
