Not sure if this is where this post needs to be but I'm just curious as to if anyone has a blackout box of some description?
I was having a conversation with my girlfriend about applying one into our flat, so to speak I was thinking along the lines of using just an ordinary tool box which would just basically have everything we think we may need in a blackout? (Instead of rummaging around for our BOBs)
Just an idea of ours I suppose, whether it becomes real who knows we are just discussing it for the moment
Also to point out, we live on the 2nd floor and we are not allowed for a log burning stove of some description so candles etc would be great for us if such a circumstance should arise.
Suggestions? Tips?
Josh

Re: Blackout boxes?

Re: Blackout boxes?
I have a blackout box just inside my loft trap.
On the wall underneath the trap is where my fusebox and meters are and I have a shake torch hanging there.
I also happen to have a torch and/or a lighter on me any time I'm wearing clothes and a crank light by the bed.

Hey Steveo82, I'd be interested to know more about your battery backed - up boiler. Any chance you could elaborate on the system you have?Steveo82 wrote:Same here but we also have a backup battery supply for the boiler and emergency lightingdamaralenoire wrote:I dont have anything specific in a box for a blackout as i have a prep cupboard which contains all my prepping supplies so far including my camping cooker, candles, torches, batteries etc in their allocated space on the shelf
Re: Blackout boxes?
Well we have decided to go ahead and get some sort of blackout box. Starting with literally just a plain looking tool box (nothing fancy) and storing it up with lights, candles, wind up radio, wind up torch, batteries, we are also going to add a hexi stove into this as if we lose power we can obviously use that to cook with and it's fairly small which will take up not much space and we can live off noodles for a few days! adding boil in the bag rice etc etc we already buy bottles of water so water shouldn't be much of a problem.
I'm also thinking of adding into it those foil emergency blankets, I know it may seem silly as we are talking about staying indoors in our flat when a blackout occurs but it may get too cold just to have our duvet wrapped around us and those blankets really work a charm as we found out on a recent camping trip when it poured down with rain and we couldn't stop shivering from the cold night but they came to our rescue . We already have a wind up torch in our bed side drawer, not sure what else to add as realistically we are only going to prep it for a night or two and to be honest, it's fine during the day as we both can go out to work (providing nothing bad comes of the blackouts) but it's the nights we're more concerned about.
Are we just being too over the top?

Re: Blackout boxes?
I actually keep a torch in each room, and there is a cupboard full of a variety of items for a blackout, like hurican lamps, candels, wind up lamps, solar chargers.
Then to cook, boil water I have camping stove, and 50 gas cartridges, 35 Buddy Burners, and 5 meths stoves. I also have shafe gel fire and a moths supply of gel (soon to have a multi fuel stove, within a month) blankets, sleeping bags and hot water bottles for temperature control.
I am personally fairly content with the current preps for a blackout.
Stay safe
