Have you tested your smoke detectors?

Post by mallie99 »

I'm about to pop out for a nice long walk in the rain, and (bizarrely) it made me think about fire.

In our household, we have always made sure that the escape routes are clear before we go to bed. We know where the door keys are (and they are never in the door). We turn off unnecessary equipment (my computer is always necessary equipment) and we test the smoke alarms regularly. Mostly because they go off to tell us the food is nearly cooked in the kitchen

So, have you checked your smoke alarms recently?

yesterday strangely we have just had the cealing in the hall and landing re skimmed and painted... smoke alarms are interlinked so once paint was dry they were put up re wired and tested (and new batteries)

You raise a valuable point. When we were going through our adoption process every room had to be fitted with a smoke alarm with a carbon monoxide alarm on each floor. We also had to add fire extinguishers in the kitchen, hall and landing areas plus a blanket in the kitchen. This was before we started prepping... Super concious of these things now we test very regularly - the kitchen one goes off all the time so we know that works. Sad to say.

replace the kitchen one with a heat detector unit which works on a "rate rise" basis eg
