Well as it stands at the moment it is illegal to hunt with a crossbow and to keep one for defence.
However, I do believe it is a great outdoor hobby.

Please keep ant discussions within the guidelines of the law.
Thank you

Haha yeah agreed, but I'm speaking in a W.R.O.L situation, and our laws forbid us from owning firearms, so how can you prep for the ultimate self defence. I'd feel a lot safer with a fire arm if the SHTF to protect me and my family

it is illegal to hunt in the UK using ANY bow not just a crossbow, even hunting with an air rifle or shotgun you need the owners permission otherwise its trespassing with a firearm and liable to get the armed response unit down on you very quickly.

I read somewhere you can fish using a crossbow but if you do hunt you need to be 30 to 50 yards range away from your prey

doubtful, depends on what your using, I recently bought an old Barnett Wildcat 100lb crossbow at a car boot, works perfectly, got quite a punch for something that's only 100lb and cost me the princely sum of £20 !!!!

I don't think you can fish on fresh water except with a rod or pole

But, I can't find any info anywhere
