If you use the phase "man up" you have alot to learn.

Not in my BOB, I have a pre-mac filter and a Mill-bank bag for that.
I have 2 in my Bug-In preps though.

Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.
Re: Life saver bottle
I've got a LifeSaver bottle, a LifeStraw and a Sawyer Mini.
Adapt or Die, there is no middle ground.

Re: Life saver bottle
Ive used them on a number of occasions and they really do work well.
They are quite expensive but they do the trick in a clince.

Re: Life saver bottle
Used these, and lived off them for about 2months.
Not brilliant. Will do the job but will put you off water - gas a horrid taste.
I much prefer to use issued purification tablets
Too much money and too big for edc

I couldn't make my mind up on a system, but I think ill be going for this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/SAWYER-MINI-WAT ... 042&sr=1-1
or this
http://www.trekitt.co.uk/3453/products/ ... ystem.aspx
It filters down to 0.1 microns, rather than the 0.015 that the lifesaver bottle does, but its not got a shelf life, and should last forever.

Re: Life saver bottle
No shelf life but be careful it says 100,000 gallons guarentee however when SHTF and it only manages 100gallons. Who will uphold the guarantee.
If it does what it says you've hot a little gem there.
My concern would be a membrane filter - not as reliable as molecular or carbon filters. But the pros as you say no shelf life.
Nice find

Re: Life saver bottle
Yes, hopefully it does what it says on the tin!
The filter is also back washable (syringe included) which is why it should last for a very, very long time. I've read quite a few reviews and people say good things about it. The only negative for me is the filtration level, but in a SHTF situation, this will be better than drinking straight river water, and I don't have to worry about spending £100+ every few years to replace a filter.
Also unlike the lifesaver, once used, you can simple put it into storage again, and you don't have to keep using it like the lifesaver. Many of these reasons, plus the much cheaper cost make it a no-brainier to me I think (unless someone has their own experience/views about this product?)

Re: Life saver bottle
I picked up three lifesaver bottles with spare filters on eBay there last year ..... all brand new never used for £45 ..... I couldn't believe my luck. I have two in storage and use one regularly on hiking trips, It's a lot easier to carry an empty bottle on long hikes than a full one especially when you know where all the rivers are.
