Including a knife in your uk get home bag

Post by Bizz901 »

My get home bag is sitting in the car without 1 of the most important tools because it's illegal to carry a knife in the uk. Are people hiding the knife from there pack els where in the car or just taking it out all together ? :)

It isn't illegal to carry a knife in the UK.

Just certain types.

The Criminal Justice Act (1988) Section 139 sets this out:

My Bags all have at least one knife in them and I also always have at least one on me at all times as well.

Just make sure it is sub 3" and a non-locking folder to remain on the right side of the law.

My little 'emergency' bag in my car contains a Leatherman, dont ask me which one, but it has a blade, pliers, can opener and all that. I know it has a locking blade, but it is in the bottom of the bag, and will be used if needed in an appropriate manner. No way I would carry a fixed blade though.

I would, if what I was using it for called for it.

To be fair, everySaturday afternoon and Tuesday morning I carry my boning and steak knives, wrapped in me apron.
However, a few years ago I was arrested after an 'incident'. After being searched I had to explain my Opinel, Swiss Army Knife, lighter, torch and bandana.
23 hours later I was released without charge. Trust me, until you have been there, do not think " I'll be alright". Events can overtake you and you end up in a situation youcannot control. Being banged up ain't good. Especially if it is just a matter of 'principals'.

I have a penknife on me at all times too. And a leatherman. And an athame*, which I use for digging up roots and interesting bits of quartz.

*An athame is a religious knife and absolutely never, not ever ever, used to draw blood. Feel free to google :)

I still carry a penknife/ multitool. I am just careful. The threat of going on remand is NOT good , so I am careful now.
My colleague was questioned by the police when he carried his knives to his car on Saturday. We all take our knives to sharpen them. He had to go back in and get the boss to verify his story! WTF!
