I would also suggest lining the flue with a flue liner.
And putting a plate in the chimney, with a hole init to stop the chimney sucking all the heat out of the room.
I installed a log burner a few years ago, I'll try and post some pictures.
And definitely get monoxide and smoke alarms.

Have you considered having some stone/marble/slate shelfs for keeping butter and veg and meat cold?

If the shtf, why would you would you want to be on your own, surely there is better streanth in numbers and a better chsnce of survival. And less of a chance of being targeted by gangs.
