Re: Food Riots -

G'day Dusty,

I'm glad you get where I'm going with this. And yeah, Mad Max was eating 'Dinky Di' dog food ... 'dinky di' is a colloquial expression in Aus meaning 'real' or 'genuine'.

Forage & Cook Class - Midlands

G'day you lot, Loaf in Birmingham is running a 3 hour forage and cook class. You scour the city's canals, parks, highways and byways for all the usual goodies including sorrel, wild garlic, japonica quince and meadowsweet ... before heading back and cooking up your meal. Great for those of us who ar...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week

@ Plymton - no, I didn't see that episode, sounds interesting. The best for killing animals is if the shaft goes right through and they bleed out quite quickly. We could knock down a feral pig back in Oz in about 1-3 minutes depending on where they where hit. A break off head sounds nasty, akin to t...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week

Spruce is not a bad material for an arrow shaft Forge, my limited success has been due to using only material I find in the woods (feathers are damned hard to come by) ... primarily on account that that is all there will be come SHTF - if I can't make them from scratch, any bow is going to be limite...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week

The archery is coming along nicely (long and crossbow) - I can now group my arrows within a 6" grouping at 40 yards. Current arrow/bolt usage is one lost/two damaged out of twelve on a forty target (field archery) course. Big thanks to Merlin archery for sending me a whole bunch of stuff to rev...

Re: Food Riots -

G'day Decaff - It may be my time in the army that gives lie to the adage "No plan, however well thought out, survives contact with the enemy." I'd hoped that this would be an exchange of ideas, as LW puts it, thinking outside the box. Its the assumption that most people have is that they w...

Re: Food Riots -

I was being ironic about the Pot Noodle. And I stand corrected, of course everyone will be at home at the exact moment the SHTF surrounded by years worth of supplies ... sorry (more irony FYI). ;) Doesn't anyone here travel? In country or overseas? Suppose the roads are impassable and ... sigh, I gi...

Re: Food Riots -

That assumes you are not hundreds of miles from home visiting your saintly grey haired grandmother. Most preppers seem to rely on the SHTF while they at home surrounded by their supplies. This post suggested a solution should you be short of supplies for any number of reasons. ;)

Food Riots -

OK, so it's finally happened the (insert your favourite scenario here). You jump in the car to top up your supplies and find a riot at the supermarket - people screaming, fist fights, harsh language ... total anarchy as the population fight over the last few scraps, leaving only Pot Noodles behind (...

Re: Household items that double as defence

I suppose the thing to consider regarding self defence are the circumstances. If someone has broken into your home and you brain them with a baseball bat with nails hammered into it - the authorities will take a dim view of your actions. A very effective pepper spray erm, 'marinade' can be concocted...
