Re: Shortage of meds

I've been stocking up on pain relief, NSAIDs and decent antihistamines, all over the counter so it takes time and i can only buy so much at once, but i have got to the mindset of every time i'm in or near a chemist i'll pop in for a box or two. Can't hurt to have them and they last well past the sel...

Re: Do not rely on RAC to get you home.

We've had RAC for several years and have the individual 'driving any vehicle' membership. Had a few call outs over the years and they've always been good, sometimes had a bit over an hour wait, but better than getting fleeced by a recovery service in desperation. With the 'any vehicle' membership we...

Re: Thought I would put this here to see if anyone is interested.

This reminds me of something I saw recently where there was a mail order service to check if you were more intelligent than your dog, you had to send $600 to find out.

I wonder how many people got a letter back saying:

"your dog is clearly more intelligent than you"

Re: Mental Health.

I always remember the old quote: "The most dangerous risk in life is spending your time not doing what you want, on the bet you can buy yourself the freedom to do it later" I've known a few people who were very wealthy but also old, and the one common thing they said, is that they wish the...

Re: Slime “Skabs”

There is only one way to fix a flat at the roadside, and that is a spare tube - especially in the dark/rain/snow. Fixthe tube at home in the warm and dry, with proper self vulcanising patches, as Yorkshire Andy said. Agree, no point messing about when a new tube can be fitted and pumped up in minutes...

Re: Suggestions for good quality walking boots

Danner every time for me. Got pair of Acadia for warmer weather and insulated Fort Lewis for winter. Had my fort Lewis boots over 15 years, never leaked, always kept my feet comfy and feel like slippers. they're getting ready for resoling though, something which can be done through Danner anyway - y...

Storing/folding cash

A little first world prepper problem today! I always like to keep an emergency stash on me, in a small aluminium canister - measures around 80mm long and about 18mm wide, i've usually got about £40 in it, and usually in 20's. Did a rare thing today and forgot my wallet, so used the emergency stash f...

Re: Running to the hills

You'll also know people locally, who are the good guys, etc. You may even have a number of good friends living nearby who you could cooperate with. Its not very apocalyptic though, sitting in your own house with the lights off. I dunno, i've always liked firelight, unless you're in a 28 days ...

Re: Running to the hills

I've never been a fan of the 'run to he hills' theory, certainly in the UK, it's just too small and every other city-dweller will have the same idea: 'Let's run off into the nearest national park and it will all be ok' Seemingly forgetting that if you're on foot, the amount of stuff you can sensibly...

Re: Car break down prepping in real life

For food in a vehicle we go with the Wayfarer meals in bags, bit costlier than i'd like but they do last ages and taste pretty good hot or cold, we recently ate some that were over five years out of date after a breakdown meant getting to a campsite very late, and to be fair they tasted fine  W...
