Re: Pound coin being replaced in 2017

I'm going to have to remember that date - I've got a couple of savings tins full of them! They're in the tins you need a tin opener to get at your cash. Helps stop me dipping to my savings when I want a few extra quid!

Re: What preps are you doing this week? Part 3.

I've spent today looking at houses for sale as I may now be able to get a house in the country. It's been my dream for a long time to have a house with a small amount of land to be a bit more self sufficient. I've had allotments but I want to be away from the town with large enough garden space. Hop...

Re: What are you dehydrating?

I've finished off my apples from last year, got to start thinking about what to do this year now.

Re: What preps are you doing this week? Part 3.

I've spent the day printing off survival manuals and end of the world guides on the printer at work. If nothing else I can use the paper to start my fire in my wood burning stove :D

Re: Hot Cans - Anyone tried them??

TBH these hotcans have proved to be worth their weight in gold for ME. I'm not saying that they are for every one but I have kept a couple of meals and a couple of drinks in my car for emergency. When I got stuck for five hours in a traffic jam I had a hot meal. After spending a whole day in the wil...

Re: When to start planting with this odd weather

I normally grow seedlings in the greenhouse late march early may and plant out in may. I normally put my spuds in towards the end of march and keep earthing up as the weather dictates. I neglected to earth up properly once and lost all my earlies to frost.

Re: Emergency savings

this is one of my goals at the moment. I'm aiming for at least a years outgoings in cash savings, which for me will be about £8000. If I concentrate on only essential outgoings then I need £5000. I didn't do this before as I was working towards paying off my mortage and still enjoying myself :D Now ...

Re: What preps are you doing this week? Part 3.

I've just spent the afternoon splitting some logs given to me by a collegue at work, mainly branch junctions and knotty bits that he's obviously struggled to split himself! I'm not complaining - two weeks of free wood now in the shed :)

Re: Hi from Hampshire

my main worry is the continuing poor state of the economy for working class people. I have survived two redundancy proceedures in the last four years. My goals have changed from collecting stocks of food and water (which I do have) to accumulating an emergency fund to cushion any financial problems....
